Get Fit Retreats in Palm Beach Illustrated Magazine

Monica McMahon, founder and owner of Get Fit Retreats, was interviewed for Palm Beach Illustrated’s December 2021 issue. She spoke about her inspiration for creating unique, custom, highly personalized wellness retreats.  The excerpts below are from Palm Beach Illustrated magazine.

Need a momentary escape from your life or an opportunity to hit the “reset” button?

With Get Fit Retreats in Boca Raton, Monica McMahon has combined a passion for travel and adventure with a gift for creating unforgettable experiences to offer custom retreats for anyone who is striving to feel better or be- come more balanced in body, mind, and soul.

McMahon shares with PBI what goes into planning her personalized retreats and some of her most epic memories. (getfitretreats.com)

PBI: How do you create a custom retreat?

McMahon: The location and retreat participants coupled with the intention/theme are all pieces of the puzzle that make each retreat so unique.

We have a standard component with a sliding scale of how much spiritual [or] physical [activity], rituals, ceremonies, journaling we incorporate.

There is a unique theme, an overarching intention, and a knowledge that things will change.

Where can these take place?

Anywhere! We have a few favorite spaces. One is a beautiful penthouse located in Punta Mita, Mexico. Other locations are the Dominican Republic and Costa Rica as well as Santa Fe for a spa and meditation retreat. It’s always nice to go somewhere exotic, but we can create a retreat experi- ence literally almost anywhere. We can even transform someone’s home into a retreat space.

What are a few of your favorite activity options to include?

Each retreat includes an element of yoga, breath work, meditation, most likely a dance party, and an adventure element. The adventure element is the experience that boosts the adrenaline, challenges our “shadow self,” and provides the gateway to making the retreat a bit more soulful.

What are the most unique custom retreats you have created?

Vermont and Iceland. In Vermont we experienced yoga with horses. It included poses (asanas) on horses and running [6 inches] beside a Clydesdale. The experience was about earning a partnership of trust by coexisting in the same space as the majestic beast. Talk about having to be present in the moment.

In Iceland, we weaved the elements and corresponding crystals into our yoga, adventures, and meditations. We soaked in the hot springs, crawled into caves, and practiced yoga on craters where the silence was deafen- ing. We danced under the northern lights and even experienced a hurricane.

What’s the purpose of a retreat?

Our retreats are an investment in self. More than ever, I believe people need to take time to discover who they really are, beyond their roles in society. I believe everyone deserves to retreat… to celebrate and engage in a transformational experience so that they can shine, rise, live authentically, and come together as community so we can all evolve spiritually.

What led you to create Get Fit Retreats?

Simply put, my dharma. Once yoga entered my life, my desire to serve oth- ers strengthened and evolved into the concept of curating custom retreats.

How to Create Your Own Amazing Yoga Retreat Experience! – Pineapple Post

Pineapple Press Newspaper LogoArticle by Michelle Tamblyn – originally appeared in the Pineapple Press.

It seems like more and more people are offering yoga retreats. It is among the latest trends in health and wellness centered vacations. People are realizing the benefits of adding exercise and meditation to their daily routines, as well as making dietary lifestyle changes. Sometimes the experience of a retreat is just what you need to make a change.

I was very excited to have the opportunity to co-facilitate a yoga retreat with Monica McMahon in New England this past fall. She is the founder of GetFit Retreats, a unique company specializing in custom retreats designed especially for you and your group. You pick the theme and elements for the retreat and an experienced team of facilitators will provide what you need based on your intention.

Monica has a business background, having specialized in human resources management for PepsiCo and leadership/ organizational effectiveness for both small businesses and corporations. She has a bachelor’s degree in psychology and organizational development from UC Berkeley with a Human Resources Management Certificate from UCLA.

She has experience and knowledge of group dynamics and how people absorb and process experiences. This is important, as a retreat will tend to take you out of your comfort zone.

If you are considering going on a yoga retreat: it is a good way to shift the energy in your life. If you are wanting to make a change, but feeling stuck as to how to move forward, a retreat can give you clarity and direction. Maybe you are already in the midst of a transition, and have the free time or resources to do something special for yourself. A retreat can help with the process of letting go of the old so the new can move in. You might just need a break from your usual routine. A retreat is a place to disconnect from the everyday influences in your life so you can get in touch with your own truth.

A yoga retreat is a great way to experience different places with a group of like-minded people, meet new friends, and have new adventures! You may find yourself trying something you never would have imagined you’d do, being able to let go of fears and old limiting beliefs.

A retreat can be very grounding, connecting you with nature, and spending more time outdoors. There is plenty of time for introspection and meditation. When you are making time to connect with the space within and find your truth then it naturally shines out more into your experience. You will have a lot of fun!

With a customized retreat from GetFit Retreats, you can choose the length and focus of the retreat as well as the location and main activities. Options range from mini-retreat local getaways to luxury world class resorts. The possibilities are endless. We are looking forward to creating a very special experience for you in Iceland in the fall of 2016! I hope you will join us!
